Marin Open Space Trust is a non-profit public benefit corporation that has been granted 501(c)(3) status. It is a land trust and there is a FAQ section on land trusts following elsewhere on this site. There are potential tax advantages to making donations to a qualified land trust, and MOST also has the ability to apply for foundation and other grant monies.

MOST is an “investment bank” for the raising of money to preserve open space in Marin County. That means being expert at knowing exactly how and where to raise funds to purchase specific properties. It means knowing how to leverage private and public funds for the most benefit possible. It means knowing who and where to go to raise money for different type projects. It means building a first-class database of funding sources and knowing how to access all of them.

We realize some change in Marin County is inevitable, but we are willing to work as hard as we can to preserve those rare and valuable properties that have significant value in terms of:

· Bio-diversity;
· Recreational;
· Access to other existing open space;
· Linkage for wildlife and trail purposes;
· Scenic value;
· Riparian and littoral corridors and wetlands;
· Significant plant or animal habitats
