Sky Ranch Knoll
Bald Hill Open Space Preserve
Through the generous support of the San Anselmo Open Space Committee, the Town of Fairfax, the Tamalpais Conservation Club, and 60 generous donors, sufficient funds have been raised to secure the purchase of the Sky Ranch Knoll. MOST plans to donate this prominent 6.8-acre property to the Marin County Open Space District for inclusion in the Sky Ranch portion of the Bald Hill Open Space Preserve.
This was a one-time opportunity to complete the Bald Hill Open Space Preserve straddling Fairfax and San Anselmo and acquire the iconic 7-acre Sky Ranch Knoll overlooking historic Sky Ranch.
Buying this property now and transferring it to the Marin County Open Space District guarantees that it will be protected and open to the public forever.
About Bald Hill Open Space Preserve
The Bald Hill Open Space Preserve originated in 1993 with the purchase of 17 acres in San Anselmo. It has been expanded with four additional acquisitions, most recently the summit of Bald Hill in 2023. Its 106 acres includes ridge lands and wooded hillsides accessible by hiking trails and fire roads. These properties include the Towns of Fairfax, San Anselmo and Ross and were all zoned residential.
In 2015 MOST worked with residents of Fairfax and San Anselmo to save the historic Sky Ranch from development. Now MOST has a chance to buy the prominent 7-acre Sky Ranch Knoll which is surrounded on three sides by the Bald Hill Open Space Preserve and rises over two hundred feet above the center of Sky Ranch. The property is visible from many parts of the Ross Valley and provides views of Bald Hill, Bolinas Ridge, Mount Diablo, the Bay and downtown San Francisco, making it a prime site for housing.
