MOST IS THE ANSWER
Over forty years ago when Marin County was facing massive urban sprawl citizens and community leaders responded by creating award-winning organizations to fund and acquire significant lands for open space preservation in and around our communities. Those preserved lands delineate our communities today. They include key ridges, lowlands and bay lands for accessible recreation, natural resource protection, scenic community backdrops, watershed and fire protection.
OUR JOB IS NOT YET DONE!
Over 15,000 key hilltop and lowland acres in the eastern urbanized corridor and certain unique lands in west Marin County remain at risk from development pressures and other negative changes which threaten our hard-earned quality of life. Many of these lands we take for granted as being already protected. They create key gaps in completing our vital trail, wildlife, and scenic backdrop corridors.
Marin Open Space Trust (MOST) a private nonprofit 501(c)(3) land trust was formed to lead a new drive to fund and protect those remaining lands forever. The Trust is working independently but cooperatively with the Marin County Parks Department and the Open Space District and other local open space organizations to support this crucial acquisition and fundraising effort.
Donations are currently necessary to support the Trust’s work. Key lands delineated “at risk” include Tiburon Ridgeland, hilltops in central Marin such as Bald Hill and Big Rock Ridge and other undeveloped lowlands along the 101 corridors or in Bowman Canyon in west Novato.
