King Mountain Open Space Preserve

The 161-acre wooded top of King Mountain including a popular loop trail and spectacular views of San Francisco Bay and Mount Tamalpias was purchased by MOST with the generous support of the Shelby Cullom Davis Charitable Fund. It was donated to Marin Open Space District which also owns three adjacent parcels which together now comprise the 269-acre King Mountain Open Space Preserve shown on the map at the bottom of this page.

This acquisition will secure the natural scenic features and important habitat values of this unique property and assure permanent public access to the 771-foot-high peak of King Mountain, a 50-year goal of the King Mountain Open Space Association. The Shelby Cullom Davis Charitable Fund also generously granted $2-million to the District for management of the property including wildfire risk reduction and improved public access.
