In 2015, MOST purchased the $1.2 million, 16-acre Sky Ranch near Fairfax and San Anselmo and sold it to Marin County Parks at a substantial discount below fair market value. The scenic, hilly property, once an equestrian boarding facility, is now part of the 46-acre Bald Hill Open Space Preserve, which connects to more than 100,000 acres of additional public lands. MOST secured acquisition funds from the towns of Fairfax and San Anselmo, Marin Municipal Water District, San Anselmo Open Space Committee, California Wildlife Foundation, and Tamalpais Conservation Club, as well as 175 individuals. The county contributed $660,000: $330,000 from Measure A and $300,000 from the California State Coastal Conservancy. MOST also raised $120,000 for site stabilization and removal of deteriorated old buildings. Marin County Parks restored the entire property, especially areas with significant erosion, before opening it to the public.
